Non-local labourer killed in B’pora, policeman shot at in Anantnag

Srinagar: A non-local labourer was shot dead in Bandipora while a police personnel was injured in a militant attack in Bijbhera area of Anantnag, officials said on Friday.

“During the intervening night of 11/12 August, at about 0015 hours (militants) fired upon a labourer identified as Mohammad Amrez son of Mohammad Jalil resident of Madhepura Besarh Bihar at Soadnara Sumbal area of District Bandipora,” a police spokesperson said in a statement.

In this incident, he said, Amrez received critical gunshot injuries and was immediately evacuated to nearby hospital but he succumbed to his injuries.

Later at about 1515 hours, militants fired indiscriminately upon a police personnel near Padshahi Bagh area of Bijbehara in southern Kashmir’s Anantnag district.

The police personnel suffered gunshot injuries and was immediately evacuated to hospital for the treatment to his injuries, he said. “His condition is stated to be stable”.

“Senior officers reached at the spot along with reinforcement. The whole area was cordoned off and search in the area was going on,” he said.

Police have registered cases under relevant sections of law and investigation has been initiated in both the cases, he said. “Officers continue to work to establish the full circumstances of these (cases).” (GNS)
