Govt releases Rs 41 cr for basic amenities, infrastructure in 44 blocks of UT

By: Ibni Maqbool

Srinagar: In a major push for development of Jammu and Kashmir’s least developed blocks, the administration of Union Territory on Friday released Rs 41 crore for basic amenities and building infrastructure in them under its ambitious” aspirational block development programme.”

The Planning Development & Monitoring Department today released Rs 41.79 crore to Deputy Commissioners of all 20 districts for its utilization during the current fiscal under the “aspirational block development programme” in 44 blocks of J&K.

Modelled on the lines of Government of India’s “aspirational district programme”, the aspirational block development programme was conceived for improving the socio-economic status of the most backward blocks in J&K.

The administration selected 44 most backward blocks on the data made available by the districts and the comments of district development commissioners/ administrative secretaries.

The programme was rolled out on November 8, 2021 after approval from administrative council on October 19.

While releasing the funds, the Planning Development & Monitoring Department has directed Deputy Commissioners that works/activities are executed after observing all codal formalities, e-tendering and shall be completed during the current financial year.

“Execution of works/ activities shall be taken up strictly only for the approved schemes within the approved cost and no liability shall be created, “reads the order of PD&MD, a copy of which lies with Precious Kashmir.

The DCs have also been asked that progress report (physical/ financial) shall be sent to the Planning Development & Monitoring Department on a monthly basis by or before 5th of every month.

They have also been directed to submit utilization certificates before March 31, 2023.

According to the order, diversion of funds from one work/activity to another work/activity is not allowed at any cost.
