Heavy rainfall inundates Srinagar roads

Srinagar: Srinagar and other major parts of the Kashmir valley received heavy rainfall followed by cloudburst in several far off areas inundated many low lying areas causing flood like situation disrupting normal life on Wednesday evening.

At least two persons were injured when a huge tree fell on a load carrier at Bemina Degree College in Srinagar. Both injured have been shifted to nearby JVC hospital for treatment.

Transmission lines were also damaged due to the gusty winds that uprooted trees at several places

A report from Qamarwari in down town Srinagar said that the roof of a house collapsed due to the heavy rainfall. However, no one was injured

Srinagar and its adjoining areas received heavy rainfall for about an hour inundated many low lying areas including Lal Chowk, Budshah Chowk, Maisuma, Hari Singh High Street, Raj Bagh, Kursoo, Khanyar and Babdemb .

Flood like situation was witnessed at HMT, Umarabad and its adjoining areas also. The furious rains with harsh winds uprooted many trees in Srinagar resulting in traffic jams on several roads.

In central Kashmir’s Ganderbal area reports of heavy rainfall caused flash floods and inundated many areas. Many trees were also uprooted due to fast winds coupled with rainfall causing closure of roads there.

Many streams and nallas were flooded due to the rain waters across the Kashmir valley. There were reports of cloudburst from a far flung area of Tulail in Gurez valley which caused flash floods in Chakwali nalla causing damage to a wooden bridge. (Agencies)
