5 youth prevented from joining militant ranks: Police

Srinagar: In a major success, five youth were prevented by Srinagar Police from joining militant ranks, police said on Friday.

They said on July 8, Police Station Kralkhud in Srinagar received an information through a reliable source that a group of alleged miscreants- which had known history of being linked with The Resistance Front, the shadow group of Lashkar-e-Taiba- had gathered at Babademb Naqashpora ground and were convening a meeting.

Police said the group included Bilal Ahmad Malla of Harden Lolab, Haseeb Farooq of Prichoo Pulwama, Shah Fahad Shabir of Tangpona Pulwama and Reyaz Ahmad Mughal of Reshiwari Aawoora Kupwara.

“The group has had a known history of being linked with TRF wing of banned militant outfit of LeT and have been known to have had conversations over phone with their militant handlers in other side of Kashmir. Also, as per inputs the whole group was in a bid to join militant ranks anytime after Eid al Adha,” a police spokesman said.

“Since these activities of the said group were prejudicial to the security of the country, and considering the reliable inputs about their efforts to join militant ranks, they were arrested on spot,” he added.

Police said another accused was arrested during the investigations.

He was identified by police as Mohammad Imroz Dar of Bundroo Pulwama

“He was also making efforts to join militant ranks,” the spokesman said.

Accordingly, a case has been registered in Police Station Kralkhud and further investigation has been taken up. (UNI)
