Srinagar: Acting tough against the social crimes, Police on Wednesday claimed to have arrested three gamblers in Awantipora and seized stake money from their possession.
A police spokesman said that acting on specific information about gambling activities in village Dooninar area of Pampore, a police party of PS Pampore raided the specific site and arrested three gamblers on the spot.
They have been identified as Mehraj Ahmad Wani son of Mohd Shaban resident of Namblabal Pampore, Mohd Altaf Buroo son of Mohd Maqbool resident of Frestbal Pampore and Mohd Ashraf Buroo son of Mohd Maqbool resident of Dooninar Pampore.
Officers have seized stake money of Rs 8,500 and playing cards from the gamblers.
Accordingly, a case under FIR number 86/2022 under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Pampore and investigation has been set into motion.
Meanwhile, police said that persons found indulging in criminal activities shall be dealt as per law. “Community members are requested to share information regarding the crimes in their neighbourhood with the local police units,” police said.
