LeT’s hybrid militant held in Bla: Police

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Police alongwith security forces have arrested a hybrid militant of Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district and recovered arms & ammunition from his possession, a police spokesman said on Saturday.

“On a specific information regarding movement of militants in Kreeri area, Police alongwith Army (29RR) established a joint checkpoint in the said area. During checking, one hybrid militant identified as Mohd Iqbal Bhat son of Gulzar Ahmad Bhat resident of Tilgam Payeen, linked with LeT was arrested. On his personal search, arms & ammunition including 01 Pistol, 01 Pistol magazine, 7 Pistol rounds was recovered from his possession,” police said in a statement.

Place said that preliminary investigation revealed that the accused was involved in providing logistics support for militant activities and was in touch with Pakistani militant Saifullah and Abu Zarar.

“The successful apprehension of the hybrid militant has evaded major militant plots and busted the module responsible for various recent attacks on PRI members and non-locals. Moreover, the arrested militant was also actively involved in providing chemicals and other materials for carrying out an IED attack on National Highway between Narbal and Renji. Interrogation of the apprehended militant is likely to give further inputs for future counter militancy operations,” police said.

In this connection, a case under relevant sections of law was registered and investigation has been initiated.
