New Delhi: India and China are looking forward to the next round of senior commanders’ meeting “at an early date” but the date has not been decided as yet.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar did talk of an early resolution of all outstanding issues along the LAC in Eastern Ladakh in talks with the Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, MEA spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said in a briefing.

“He talked about the disengagement in some friction areas, but he reiterated the need to sustain the momentum to complete the disengagement in all remaining areas to ensure peace and tranquility in the border areas,” Bagchi said.

Informing about the meeting with the Chinese counterpart, Bagchi said the minister reaffirmed the importance of abiding by the understandings and the bilateral protocols.

“They look forward to the next round of senior commanders’ meeting at an early date. I don’t have a date for that, that hasn’t taken place as yet,” he said.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar met State Councilor and Foreign Minister of China Wang Yi on Wednesday in Bali, Indonesia on the sidelines of the G20 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting.

Recalling the disengagement achieved in some friction areas, Jaishankar reiterated the need to sustain the momentum to complete disengagement from all the remaining areas to restore peace and tranquility in the border areas.

He reaffirmed the importance of fully abiding by bilateral agreements and protocols, and the understandings reached between the two Ministers during their previous conversations, the MEA said in a statement.

In this regard, both Ministers affirmed that the military and diplomatic officials of the two sides should continue maintaining regular contact and looked forward to the next round of Senior Commanders’ meeting at an early date.

EAM reiterated that India-China relationship is best served by observing the three mutuals – mutual respect, mutual sensitivity and mutual interests, the statement added.

Bagchi also said that India will assume the presidency of G20 from December this year.

“Apart from the summit which we will host the next year, a large number of G20 events at different levels will be organised across the country during our presidency,” he said.
