2 held for illegal extraction, transportation of minerals in Budgam: Police

Srinagar: Acting tough against the elements involved in illegal extraction and transportation of minerals, Police in Budgam have arrested two persons and seized two vehicles involved in the commission of crime.

Offices from Police Post Soibugh during naka checking at Bonpora Soibugh intercepted two vehicles (Tippers) bearing registration numbers JK03A-3595 and JK04B-3681loaded with illegally extracted soil, a police spokesman said.

The two accused drivers identified as Firdous Ahmad Malik son of Muhammad Sadiq Malik resident of Bonpora Soibugh and Mudasir Ahmad Kuttay son of Mohammad Shafi Kuttay resident of Arizal Budgam were arrested and vehicles used in the commission of crime have also been seized, he said.

Accordingly, a case under FIR number 221/2022 under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Budgam and further investigation set into motion.

Meanwhile, police said that persons found indulging in illegal mining activities shall be dealt as per law. “Community members are requested to share information regarding the crimes in their neighbourhood with their concerned police units,” police said.
