Drug peddler held in Budgam: Police

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Police on Friday claimed to have arrested a drug peddler and recovered contraband substance from his possession in Budgam.

“A Police party of Police Station Beerwah at a checkpoint established at Utligam Beerwah Crossing signalled a motorcycle bearing registration number JK04G-0747 laden with two bags to stop,” a police spokesman said.

He said that the motorcyclist on noticing the Police party tried to flee from the spot however he was apprehended tactfully by alert Police party. He has been identified as Gulzar Ahmad Dar son of Ali Mohammad Dar resident of Ranipora Malpora Beerwah. During search, officers recovered 30 Kgs of semi-grinded Poppy Straw from his possession. Motorcycle used in the commission of crime has also been seized.

Meanwhile, police registered a case under FIR number 79/2022 under relevant sections of law at Police Station Beerwah and investigation has been initiated.

Moreover, police appealed people to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood. “Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law,” police said.
