Govt to revise minimum rates of wages in certain employments

Puts proposal in public domain; seeks suggestions, objections

Srinagar: The Jammu & Kashmir Government has proposed to revise the minimum rates of wages in case of certain employments.

The Department of Labour & Employment, in exercise of the powers conferred by clause (b) of sub-section (1) of Section 5 of The Minimum Wages Act, 1948, has proposed to revise the minimum rates of wages in case of certain employments.

“The proposed revision is hereby notified for information of persons likely to be affected thereby and if any person has any objection/ suggestion to the proposal, the same should be to the Government in the Labour & Employment within two months from the date of issuance of this notification, after which the proposed revision shall be taken into consideration by the Government,” reads the notification, a copy of which is in possession of The Precious Kashmir.

The proposal was put in public domain on June 27(Monday) by the Labour & Employment department.

According to the notification, the objections/suggestions regarding the same shall be submitted to Commissioner Secretary, Labour & Employment Department.

As per the draft, the government has proposed to increase the rate of minimum wages in construction industry, forest industry, hair cutting & saloons, agriculture industry, rice/ floor/dal mills industry, hotel/restaurant/tea stall & commerce, woolen carpet making or shawl weaving, oil mills, tanneries, leather manufacturing, embroidery including chain stitch, wood carving, light engineering work, workshops, steel metal rolling mills, silicate, chemical works, brick kiln industry, manufacturing of food products, manufacturing of metal, steel utensils, rosin & turpentine products, manufacturing of soap and detergent, manufacturing of arms and ammunition, manufacturing of sports goods, manufacturing of drinks and breweries, manufacturing of medicine/ hospital equipment, cement industry, plastic industry etc.
