DGPC elections- 2022 held smoothly

70 elected unopposed, 48.41 percent voter turnover recorded

Jammu: District Gurudwara Prabandhak Committees (DGPC) elections- 2022 were held successfully across Jammu and Kashmir UT on Monday.

In Jammu division, out of total 110 Constituencies, 70 members were elected unopposed, while votes were polled for 40 Constituencies with a turnover of 48.41 percent.

Pertinently, the elections for District Gurudwara Prabandhak Committees (DGPC) – 2022 were held as per the schedule notified by the Government through Financial Commissioner Revenue. The polling was scheduled to be held on June 27, 2022 (Monday) from 7 AM to 1 PM through Ballot Boxes. For the purpose, a total 190 constituencies were demarcated across the UT with 80 constituencies in Kashmir division and 110 in Jammu division.

The election notice was issued by the Returning Officers of the respective districts on May 27. The period for filing of nomination papers was fixed from May 28 to June 4 (from 11 AM to 3 PM). Lists of candidates were affixed on the notice boards on the same day, reads the election notification.

The nomination papers were scrutinised on June 7 at 11 AM and the candidates could withdraw their candidature on June 9 upto 3 PM. The symbols to the candidates were allotted on June 10 and the last date for campaigning was June 25.

The counting of votes was started at 2 PM on June 27 on the day of the election itself, unless notified otherwise.

In Jammu Division, the total number of voters for DGPC elections was 142242.

Elections contested in 40 constituencies of Jammu division, 122140 were total voters in these 40 constituencies out of which 59126 voters cast their votes with turnover of 48.41 percent.  70 candidates were elected unopposed in Jammu division.

It is Pertinent to mention here that first time photo electoral rolls were prepared by the administration for this purpose.

The civil administration had made elaborate arrangements for the elections besides the police authorities had also made foolproof security arrangements for the smooth conduct of the elections in the districts.
