Srinagar: A seven-year-old boy died after he drowned in a nallah in Gund-Jahangeer area of Hajin in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district on Sunday.
An official told a local news gathering agency that the boy identified as Saad Farooq (7) son of Farooq Ahmad of Gund-Jahangeer drowned while he was talking a bath in a nallah.
He said that his friends on seeing him drowning raised alarm, following which a rescue operation was launched by locals and his body was retrieved.
The official added that he was shifted to a nearby hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival.
“After medico-legal formalities his body was later handed over to family members for last rites.”
Meanwhile, in an another incident, a 17-year-old boy drowned in a pound in Rajwar area of Handwara today afternoon.
An official said that a rescue operation by police, army and locals was underway to trace the missing boy. (KNO)
