Friday prayers held after 2 weeks at Jamia Masjid

Srinagar: The Friday congregational prayers were held in Jamia Masjid or Central Mosque in down town Srinagar after two weeks.

A statement of the Anjuman Auqaf Jamia Masjid said that “after a gap of two consecutive Fridays (Juma) prayers were allowed today by authorities at the historic Jama Masjid Srinagar”.

A Large number of people, including women, offered prayers that went off peacefully., eyewitnesses said.

The Anjumn “urged the administration to refrain from closing Jama Masjid under one pretext or the other in future so that the people who come to this great place of worship from far off places, seeking pleasure of Allah, may not be disturbed”.

The Anjuman also express disappointment over the continuous three-year-long house detention of Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir Moulvi Muhammad Umar Farooq.

“We urged the authorities to ensure immediate and unconditional release of Umar Farooq ahead of Eid-ul-Adha”, the Anjuman statement added.
