On NITI Aayog’s line, J&K to monitor progress in 44 aspirational blocks

Srinagar: On the lines of NITI Aayog’s aspirational district programme, the Jammu & Kashmir Government will rank its aspirational blocks based on their progress on a real-time basis.

Documents in possession of Precious Kashmir reveal that the J&K Government has developed a monitoring framework for assessing the progress made in 44 aspirational blocks of Jammu & Kashmir.

“Aspirational Block Development Programme (ABDP) dashboard has been developed by National Informatics Centre (NIC), J&K for monitoring of indicators in very short time,” read the documents.

The aspirational blocks development programme was conceived last year on the lines of “aspirational districts programme” of NITI Aayog.
The government selected 44 bocks under the programme on the basis of 21 socio-economic parameters/indicators covering four major aspects of human development i.e. poverty, health & nutrition, education and basic infrastructure.

The documents suggest that the dashboard will rank the 44 aspirational blocks on a monthly basis on the basis of progress made by these blocks.
“All the 44 aspirational blocks have uploaded data on the portal and has been scrutinized in the Planning Development & Monitoring Department and necessary observations have been sent to districts,” the documents further reveal.
According to the documents, the districts are correcting and updating the data. “The updated data shall be put to necessary calculations for arriving at the score of the aspirational blocks and thereafter the aspirational blocks shall be ranked,” the documents further state.
It is pertinent to mention that a financial assistance of Rs 44 crore(Rs 1 crore each) will be provided for the speedy development of these blocks.
