Don’t allow contractual staff to continue after their term is over: RDD directs officials

Warns if officers allow continuation they will be liable to pay remuneration to such staff

Srinagar: The Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Department has directed its officers that contractual staff engaged for implementation of different centrally sponsored schemes shall not be allowed to work after expiry of term/ project.

In an order, a copy of which is in possession of The Precious Kashmir, the department of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj has pointed out that it has come to its notice that the staff engaged on contractual basis are being continued despite the completion of the project/ term of the candidate without the approval of the competent authority.

The department has warned its officers that they shall be liable to pay personally remuneration of such staff if they allowed them to continue.

“ It is impressed upon all the officers of this department not to allow such practices in their offices and in case any contractual employee is found engaged contrary to the above instructions or is allowed to work after the expiry of the term/ project, the officer concerned shall be liable personally to pay the remuneration, if any which becomes due to the engagement  and action as warranted under rules shall be taken against the officers for violating instructions/terms & conditions of the contractual engagement,” reads the order.

It is worthwhile to mention that the department hires contractual staff for administering/ implementation of various centrally sponsored schemes. Such contractual engagements are either time-bound or co-terminus with the project.
