100 militants killed in Kashmir from Jan to June this year: IGP Kumar

Srinagar: Four local LeT militants were killed in Pulwama and Srinagar districts on Sunday. With them, 100 militants have been killed so far this, Inspector General of Police Vijay Kumar said.

“At about 1855 hours (on June 11), acting on specific information generated by Police regarding presence of (militants) Drabgam area of Pulwama, a joint cordon and search operation was launched by Police, Army (44RR) and CRPF (182/183Bn) in the area,” a police spokesperson said.

During the search operation, he said, as the joint party approached towards the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired indiscriminately upon the joint search party which was retaliated effectively leading to an encounter.

In the ensuing encounter, he said, three local militants of LeT were killed. They have been identified as Junaid Ahmad Sheergojri of Gadoora Pulwama, Fazil Nazir Bhat of Drabgam Pulwama and Irfan Ahmad Malik of Arabal Nikas Pulwama.

“As per police records, all three of them were part of groups involved in several cases including attacks on Police and SFs,” he said, adding, “Junaid along with his associate Abid Hussain Shah of Monghama Pulwama, who stands neutralized on 30 May 2022, was involved in killing of a policeman Reyaz Ahmad at his residential house on May 13.” Besides, he was also involved in recent attack on outside labourers at a brick kiln in Chadoora on June 6 in the outskirts of Pulwama-Budgam axis in which one labourer was killed and others injured, the spokesperson said.

He said two AK-47 rifles and a pistol have been recovered from the site of encounter. “All the recovered materials have been taken into case records for further investigation.”

Meanwhile, police said LeT militant Adil Parray of Ganderbal was killed in a chance encounter with a small team of Police at Kreesbal Palpora Sangam area of Srinagar. “He was involved in killing of 02 JKP personnel Ghulam Hassan Dar in Sangam and Saifulla Qadri in Anchar Soura and injuring a 9 year old girl,” he said.

Taking to reporters here, IGP Kashmir Vijay Kumar said that 100 militants have been killed in the Kashmir Valley so far.
