2 Army soldiers go missing from Indo-China border

Itanagar: An intensive search operation is underway to trace two Indian Army jawans, deployed on the India-China border in Arunachal Pradesh, who have been “missing” for more than 15 days, a Defence spokesman said on Sunday.

“Intensive search operations have been ongoing for the two Indian Army personnel, deployed in the forward areas of Anjaw district in Arunachal Pradesh since May 28,” Tezpur-based Defence PRO, Lt Col A S Walia said.

Naik Prakash Singh and Lance Naik Harender Singh, deployed in a forward post of Arunachal Pradesh, were presumed to have accidentally fallen into a fast-flowing river in close proximity to their post, he said.

Despite immediate and extensive search and rescue operations, including aerial reconnaissance and deployment of tracker dogs, no success has been achieved. The search operations are continuing for the last two weeks.

“A court of inquiry to investigate into the incident has been convened by the Army,” the Defence PRO said.

Both the soldiers hailed from Uttarakhand, Family members of both of them have been informed of the unfortunate incident and are being regularly updated, he added.
