Army meets families of slain, surrendered militants

Jammu: The Indian Army on Tuesday organised a meeting with the families of slain militants, surrendered terrorists and their families at Dharmkot in Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir, to look into their problems, besides the rehabilitation and reformation efforts.

A Defence spokesman said the event will also double up as an appropriate forum to interact with surrendered militants, their families and families of killed militants and provide them the required guidance and assistance in their rehabilitation and reformation efforts.

Total 30 individuals surrendered and families of slain militants attended the event from Dharmkot and surrounding villages.

He said the erstwhile Doda district was an evolving cultural, educational and tourism hub of Jammu and Kashmir and this area was severely affected by militancy during the period from 1990 to 2007.

Alongwith the development of activities, a sense of normalcy has been prevailing in the region and the role of the Army towards bringing normalcy in this region is well appreciated by the Awaam, he added.

“Though the local population by and large does not favour the bloodshed and separatist politics, however due to inadequate employment opportunities and lack of awareness amongst the Awaam, the youth are still vulnerable to the lures of the inimical and anti-National elements,” he said.
