JMC passes resolution to ban loud speakers at religious places

Jammu: The Jammu Municipal Corporation on Tuesday passed a resolution, banning unauthorised use of loudspeakers at all religious places in Jammu.

The resolution was passed in the General House meeting of Jammu Municipal Corporation, to check the noise pollution.
Even though the Councilors from the opposition objected to it, the resolution was passed by a voice vote.

The resolution was proposed by BJP Corporator Narottam Sharma from Ward Number 3 to curb the increasing air, water and other forms of pollution in the city, demanding removal of loudspeakers installed in various religious places, including those installed in an unauthorised manner, to prevent noise pollution.

He claimed that as per experts, noise pollution has very hazardous effects on human health and apart from this, the Supreme Court has also directed the governments of all states to remove illegal loudspeakers.

Meanwhile, Mayor of Jammu Municipal Corporation, Chandra Mohan Gupta, said the proposal was tabled before the House and was passed with a voice vote.

The action will be initiated by the district administration, along with the Corporators of respective wards.
