No tourist complained about non-availability of WiFi in house boats : AD Tourism

Anantnag : Tourism authorities on Saturday said that a good number of house boat owners have installed Wi-Fi facilities in their units even as there is no provision in tourist trade act making it mandatory for them to provide such facilities to tourists.

Deputy Director tourism, in response to a letter received from DC Srinagar said that the registration of house boats is done under tourist trade act and presently there are 856 house boats registered under Delux, A, B, C and D categories in Dal, Nigeen, Jhelum and Chinarbagh.

“Under the act house boat owners are not supposed to provide internet facilities to the tourists. However keeping in view the demand the notice has been issued to the service providers to charge the tariff commensurate to the facilities being provided and any house boat owners have installed the WiFi in their units,” AD tourism said.

He further said that there is good mobile internet facility available in the areas where there house boats are located.

“No complaint regarding the non-availability of the internet facility from any tourist has been received by the department,” the AD said.
