Awantipora MC President caught red-handed accepting bribe: ACB

Srinagar: The Anti-Corruption Bureau of Jammu and Kashmir on Friday caught the President of Municipal Committee of Awantipora red-handed while accepting a bribe for processing the bills of a complainant.

In a statement here, the ACB said that it received a complaint, alleging therein that Bilal Ahmed Bhat, President of Municipal Committee, Awantipora, was demanding Rs 1000 for processing the bills of the complainant at the rate of five per cent.

The complainant, an owner of an IT firm, was allotted a tender for Rs 20,650 last year for the renewal of the existing contract for 2022.

ACB registered the case in Police Station Anantnag and investigation was taken up, during which a trap team was constituted.

The team caught Bhat red-handed, demanding and accepting Rs 1000 for processing the bills of the complainant.

The bribe money was also recovered from his possession in presence of independent witnesses, said the statement, adding that further investigations were going on.
