Hybrid militant, 3 aides arrested: Police

Srinagar: A “Hybrid” militant of Lashker-e-Toiba and three aides were arrested in Baramulla and Budgam districts on Friday, police said.

“On a specific information regarding movement of (militants), a joint checkpoint was established by Police, (army’s) 46RR, 53Bn CRPF & 2nd Bn SSB near Hilltop Cheradari Baramulla,” a police spokesman said in a statement, adding, “During checking, the joint party observed movement of two suspicious persons who tried to flee from the spot on noticing the joint party. However, the alert party apprehended the duo tactfully.”

The arrested duo has been identified as Ashiq Hossain Lone son of Ghulam Nabi resident of Hyder Mohalla Ushkara Baramulla and Uzair Amin Ganie son of Mohammad Amin of Kanthbagh Baramulla. “During their personal search, incriminating materials, arms and ammunition including 01 Pistol, 01 magazine, 08 live rounds, 02 hand grenades and 02 UBGL grenades were recovered from their possession.”

Preliminary investigation, he said, revealed that the arrested duo was linked with LeT and had obtained these “illegal arms ammunition through some foreign (militant) of the outfit with the intention to carry out (militant) activities in Baramulla and its adjacent areas.”

Accordingly, he said, a case under relevant sections of law stands registered in Police Station Baramulla and further investigation is in progress.

Moreover, the spokesperson said Budgam Police alongwith army’s 62RR and 43Bn CRPF arrested two militants associates of AGuH out in Huroo area of Budgam.  They have been identified as Amir Manzoor Budoo son of Manzoor Ahmad Budoo resident of Dangerpora Razwan and Shahid Rasool Ganaie son of Ghulam Rasool Ganaie resident of Puttermulla Safapora Ganderbal. “Incriminating materials including ammunition 01 hand grenade and 25 AK-47 rounds have been recovered from their possession,” he said. Accordingly, a case (FIR No. 134/2022) under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Budgam and further investigation has been taken up.
