J&K Police arrests 2 drug peddlers

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Police on Wednesday claimed to have arrested two drug peddlers and recovered Contraband from their possession in Sopore township of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.

Police parties from Rafiabad and Watergam at a checkpoint established at Ladoora crossing intercepted a vehicle with two persons on board. They have been identified as Myser Ramzan Lone, a resident of Naidhal Rafiabad and Rayees Ahmad Sheikh of Tragpora Rafiabad.

On checking, 400 grams of charas was recovered from their possession, police said and added they have been arrested and shifted to police station where they remain in custody.

The vehicle used in the commission of crime was also seized, they said.

A case under relevant sections of law was registered at Police Station Dangiwacha and investigation initiated, police added.

An official said that at around 5:00 hours today, a truck bearing number PB10HL/3434, which was heading towards Srinagar with electric poles, plunged into deep gorge near Khooni Nala, resulting in death of a driver identified as Kalvinder Singh, a resident of Shahjahanpur, Uttar Pradesh.

The cause behind the accident was preliminary ascertained as over-speeding and the resultant loss of control over the vehicle.

A case under FIR no. 44/2022 U/S 279/304-A IPC was registered at Police Station Ramsoo, the official added.
