COVID-19: J&K reports 8 new cases, no deaths

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir recorded eight new covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, a day after there was zero number of infections and deaths related to it, officials said on Tuesday.

They said that while five cases were reported from Srinagar and two from Baramulla, Jammu district registered one case after a week.

So far 453897—166274 in Jammu and 287623 in Kashmir tested positive for covid-19 in J&K, they said.

There was no death reported in the last 24 hours, they said. So far 4750 persons have succumbed to the virus—2327 in Jammu and 2423 in Kashmir.

Besides, they said, 12 Covid-19 patients recovered during the time—all from the Valley. So far 449072 people have recovered, leaving the active case tally at 75 — 2 in Jammu and 73 in Kashmir.

The officials told GNS there was no new confirmed case of mucormycosis (black fungus) reported today. So far 51 black fungus cases have been confirmed in J&K, the officials said. They also informed that 19881 doses of covid-19 vaccine were administered during the time in J&K. (GNS)

Covid not over yet: Health Minister

New Delhi, (UNI): Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya on Tuesday said the Covid-19 pandemic is not over yet and appealed to the people to take precautions. “One thing that we have to keep in mind always is that Covid is under control but it has not gone yet. We should take precautions keeping this in mind,” Mandaviya said Addressing a press conference at the BJP headquarters here, as part of the party’s social justice fortnight, he apprising all that he holds regular meetings to assess Covid situation. The Union Health Minister said, “In the meeting, we give importance to surveillance and genome sequencing. “Then, we issue an advisory to the state government if required. “We can’t predict what will happen in the future. We are always prepared for any situation,” he said. Talking about the Covid management since outbreak of the pandemic and vaccination drive, Mandaviya said, “The way the world has seen the Covid management and vaccination drive of India, they were astounded that in a day 2.5 crore doses were administered. We achieved many milestones like we administered one crore doses everyday in 10 days.” He also accused the Opposition for doing politics over vaccination. Asked about the new XE-variant of Covid-19, Mandaviya said, “It is one part of the Omicron variant.” Earlier in the day, Mandaviya chaired a meeting with the key experts and officials in this regard and directed them to boost ongoing monitoring and surveillance of new variants and cases. As per the latest bulletin issued by the Health Ministry on Tuesday, the active caseload of Covid-19 stands at 10,889. India has administered 185.90 crore doses of Covid-19 vaccine till date.
