J&K Police arrest 5 drug peddlers

Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir Police on Sunday arrested five drug peddlers and recovered contraband substances from their possession in Kashmir, officials said here.

Acting on specific input, a police party established a checkpoint at Herri Market area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district, during which two drug peddlers, identified as Zahoor Ahmad, resident of Meelyal, Kralpora and Mohd Anwar Shah of Dardpora, Kralpora were arrested.

On search, Brown Sugar weighing 22 gm was recovered from their possession, police said.

Similarly, two drug peddlers were nabbed at a checkpoint at Dooninad crossing in Pampore. They were identified as Yawar Bashir Mir alias Gunja, resident of Namblabal and Tariq Ahmad Sheikh alias Patanjali Tiger of Tulbagh Pampore. Five kg poppy straw was recovered from their possession.

Police also arrested a person from checkpoint at Baboosipora Bridge and recovered 300 gm Charas from his vehicle. He was identified as Tariq Ahmad of Ganderbal. The vehicle used in the commission of crime was also seized.

Cases under relevant Sections of law were registered at concerned police stations, police added.
