41 militants among 58 killed in Kashmir since January

Srinagar: Twenty-four persons were killed in the concluding month of March across the Kashmir Valley in different militancy-related incidents. These include a Panch, 2 Sarpanchs, 4 civilians, 2 cops, a soldier, and a trooper. Besides, 13 militants including two non-local militants as per police were killed in March.

The data available with a local news gathering agency reveals that 58 persons have been killed in the first three months of the ongoing year. The month of March witnessed 24 human casualties, followed by January with 23 killings. February recorded 11 killings among which 7 were local militants, a policeman, 2 soldiers, and a civilian.

This year till date, joint forces have neutralized 41 militants including an infiltrator in 26 encounters. These include 30 local and 11 non-local militants.

Five policemen, 3 soldiers, and a trooper were also killed in the first three months of the ongoing current year.

South Kashmir witnessed most of the gunfights followed by Central and North Kashmir. The encounters raged in Okey, Pariwan, and Hasanpora villages of Kulgam, Kilbal and Chek Nowgam villages, Amshipora, Chermarg Zainapora, and  Nowpora Nadigam orchards of Shopian, Chandgam and Naira villages, Batapora Naina, Chewkalan village, Cahrsoo and Nambal Awantipora area of Southern Pulwama district, Danda Kadal Langate and Nechama Rajwara area of Handwara, Zolwa and Tilsar villages of Budgam, Kawbagh Serch village of Ganderbal, Shalimar, Rangpura Zakura, Hazratbal, Wanabal Nowgam and Rainawari area of Srinagar.

The top militants killed since January included Zahid Wani, a resident of Karimabad Pulwama, Saleem Parrey of Hajin Bandipora, Waseem Ahmed of Srinagar, Talha Yasir, Babar Bhai, both Pakistani nationals,  Ishfaq Malik of Bongam Shopian, Ikhlaq Ahmed of Kujar Frisal Kulgam, Adil Nisar Dar of Malangpora Pulwama, Irfan Ahmed Sheikh, Abdul Qayoom Dar of Kakapora, Muzamil Mir of Chatripora Shopian and Shariq Ayoub, a resident of Bonpora Amshipora, Shahid Ahmed Khan of Batapora Pulwama, Fayaz Ahmed Sheikh of Shahpora Ganderbal, Manzoor Ahmed alias Hyder, Aqib Mushtaq Bhat alias Usman Hyder of Karimabad Pulwama, a Pakistani militant Kamal Bhai alias Jatt, Adil Ahad Khan of Badarkund Ganderbal, Suhail Gulzar Ganai of Turigam Kulgam, Owais Raja Ramzan Dar of Subhanpora, Adil Nabi Teli of Galchibal Chandhara Pampore, Shakir Ahmed Tantray of Ronipora Shopian and Yasir Ahmed Wagay of Kujar Frisal Kulgam, Rayees Ahmad Bhat son of Abdul Hameed Bhat of Shahbad Veeri Bijbhera and Hilal Ahmad Rah alias Shaboo son of Safeer Ahmad Rah of Kuthipora Waghama Bijbehara.
