Slain left home without informing Police: IGP Kashmir

Srinagar: A Sarpanch was shot dead by unidentified gunmen in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Friday, police said.

Police sources said that the Sarpanch, identified as Shabir Ahmad Mir, was fired at from close range by militants in Audura village in the evening.

“He was immediately taken to district hospital in Kulgam town where doctors declared him brought dead.

“Security forces have reached the village to carry out searches to nab the attackers,” a source said.

On March 9, militants killed a Sarpanch in Khonmoh on the outskirts of Srinagar city. He was affiliated with the PDP.

Meanwhile, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir Zone said that the Sarpanch who was killed by militants at Kulgam didn’t informed police before going to home.

Quoting IGP Kashmir, the Kashmir police Zone twitted “Deceased Sarpanch Shri Shabir Ahmed Mir was given accommodation in a secured hotel in Srinagar. He had left hotel and reached his home without informing police. All PPs are advised to kindly follow SOPs, ends the tweet. (With inputs from IANS)
