Govt employee among 2 arrested for accepting bribe: ACB

Srinagar: Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) Monday arrested an employee of Block Development Office and a “tout” while allegedly demanding and accepting bribe in Kashmir’s Bandipora district.

Showkat Ahmad, Technical Assistant, Block Development Office, Arina, Bandipora and his associate Irfan Yusuf were arrested while accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000.

ACB received a complaint from a resident of village Sumlar, Bandipora alleging therein that he and his father had executed a government work in their village.

“The concerned Technical Assistant has released only part payment of their bill of Rs. 4,10,000/ and that he is demanding bribe of Rs. 20,000/- for release of the remaining amount,” the complainant alleged. “The officer did not agree to release the remaining amount of the complainant without getting bribe of Rs. 20,000.”

The complainant approached ACB and requested for necessary action against the concerned officer.

ACB registered the case and started investigations into the matter.

“Immediately after registration of case a trap team caught the accused officer Showkat Ahmad alongwith his tout Irfan Yousaf while demanding and accepting bribe from complainant & both of them were immediately arrested on spot,” he said, adding further investigations of the case are going on.
