Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir government has suspended a Principal of Srinagar school for allegedly not preparing the institute for reopening.
The schools in Kashmir re-opened almost after 31 months on Wednesday and lakhs of students returned to their institutes. The schools were shut initially due to lockdowns after scrapping of J&K’s special status in August 2019 and the later outbreak of Covid-19 pandemic.
The Director of School Education Kashmir (DSEK) suspended the Principal of Government Boys Higher Secondary School Soura Nazir Ahmed Khan and an inquiry has been ordered.
“Pending enquiry into his conduct by Chief Education Officer (CEO) Srinagar, Nazir Ahmad Khan Principal BHSS Soura is placed under suspension with immediate effect and attached,” a DSEK order read.
The CEO Srinagar has been asked to conduct an enquiry into the matter within seven days and “fix the responsibility” on the other “delinquent officers and officials of the institution.”
“A charge sheet shall follow subsequently,” the order read.
While the order is silent on the reasons for suspension, sources said the action follows as the school was “not prepared for reopening.” (UNI)
