War against narcotics in Sgr: 41 FIRs registered in Jan, Feb

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir police while announcing war against narcotics use and distribution in Srinagar district Wednesday said that in the first two months of year 2022, 78 FIRs were registered while big fish involved in the supply chain have been identified as well.

The police also said that it have also identified the movable and immovable properties bought out of the money earned out of narcotics sale and such properties will be seized and forfeited as per the relevant sections of law.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Srinagar, Rakesh Balwal said that police have decided to launch a war against narcotics use, distribution and sale in Srinagar district.

“We are actively following the chain involved in narcotics supply. We will ensure Srinagar remains narcotics free in the months ahead and our drive against suppliers, peddlers and sellers will intensify further in the days and months ahead,” he said, adding that “police will leave no stone unturned to ensure Srinagar is free from drugs, especially narcotics.”

He said in the past two months alone, 41 FIRs were lodged in various police stations of the city. “In year 2021, 78 FIRs were lodged. On February 28, we caught a lot of people involved in narcotic trade and supply,” he said, adding that 21 people were arrested under PSA and others were booked under section 107 and 181 of CRPC.

He said as part of the intensified investigations, police in Srinagar have also identified movable and immovable properties, bought, and sold out of the money earned through narcotics sale.

“These properties will be seized or forfeited under relevant sections of law,” he said, adding that “Srinagarites will see the results of anti-narcotics drive in the coming months.” (KNO)
