Electricity restored in many areas, restoration in Kulgam likely to be completed in 3 days

Anantnag: The Power Development Department (PDD) is out to repair the extensive damages caused to the power infrastructure due to heavy snowfall across the southern districts on Wednesday. However, most of the areas in Anantang district have received electricity supply today after hectic efforts by the officials on the ground.
The officials of PDD in Bijbehara and Anantnag divisions have managed to restore the electricity in most of the areas. However, most areas of Kulgam district continues to remain affected given the huge damage to towers and transmission lines even as the department has restored electricity to emergency services like hospitals.
Though the electric wires and poles damaged by heavy snowfall in Kulgam district have been repaired and fixed by the field staff of the department, who are on toes for last two days but the damage to two towers at Wanpoo, according to the officials is delaying the restoration of power in most of the district.
Executive Engineer, PDD division Kulgam, said that the damage caused to the power infra is what we had not expected.
“The department is trying to restore power supply to district as soon as possible but our main priority was to provide electricity to emergency services like hospital. Despite such a heavy damage to the power infrastructure, we ensured power supply to the district hospital Kulgam today after charging the receiving station Kulgam from Wanpoo,” the officer said.
Tomorrow, he said, they may be able to run four feeders from Kulgam receiving station and restore the power to the town.
Work on the damaged towers at Wanpoo has also been started today and it may take two to three days to restore the power in the whole district.
At district headquarter Anantnag and its peripheries; power supply was restored only Wednesday evening while some far off villages of the division are still remains affected.
In PDD division Bijbehara, officials said, they have been able to run 31 feeders out of 42.
“Our men fixed all the damaged lines on war footing basis. We have been able to restore power supply to all those areas which get supply from Wanpo while as those areas getting supply from Wantipora are still without electricity,” the official said.
Scores of villages in PDD division Bijbehara which are yet to see the restoration of power include Khiram, Sirhama, Mahind, Hatigam, Nowshehra, Sheetipora, Wopzan, Kandipora, Katoo and K Kalan.
