Ganderbal demolition drive: Man who set himself alight rescued, evacuated to hospital by SHO, locals: Police

Srinagar: Police on Tuesday said that the man who set himself on fire in Ganderbal district against the demolition of his illegal structure was rescued and evacuated to hospital by the local SHO and his team.
In a statement , spokesman said that a demolition drive against illegal constructions was undertaken by Irrigation and Flood Control Department over the banks of Nalla Sindh. During the demolition, spokesman said, one person identified as Amir Hamid Shah S/o Nazir Ahmad Shah R/O Haran Ganderbal suddenly appeared from behind the illegal structure and self immolated on its roof in protest against demolition of illegal structure raised on the banks of Nalla Sindh.
The said person, statement said, was rescued by SHO Ganderbal and locals present on spot. However, before flames were doused, the statement said, the had man received burn injuries and was shifted to hospital.
The statement added that a deep trench dug by the owners of structure to prevent any ingress into the premises also prevented a prompt rescue. The police, spokesman said, has rendered all help and support in the hospitalisation and assured family members of best medical treatment.
“One police team is already there in hospital and facilitating his treatment,” the statement said.
Police in a statement has also requested media fraternity and general public not to circulate the video of unfortunate incident which is too graphic for the common people.
