Srinagar: The Union Ministry of Education has been asked to nominate a consultant for preparation of a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Jammu’s off-campus in Srinagar.
Documents in possession of the Precious Kashmir reveal that the Union Ministry of Education has been asked to finalize a consultant for preparation of DPR for off-campus of IIM Jammu in Srinagar.
Under the Prime Minister’s Development Package (PMDP) for Jammu & Kashmir, an off-campus of IIM Jammu was promised at Srinagar.
On August 9, 2019, the Union Education Ministry approved Rs 51.8 crore funding for establishment of the campus. The Srinagar campus will host a management development centre for capacity-building and a centre for innovation and entrepreneurship (incubation centre).
According to documents, five acres of land have already been allotted by J&K government for setting up IIM Jammu’s off-campus at Srinagar. “5 acres of land allotted for permanent out- campus on 12 May 2021,” the document states.
The off-campus is operational from October 2020 in a hired accommodation here. It was inaugurated by Union Human Resources Development (HRD) Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal in January 2020.
It is worthwhile to mention that in the 2015-16 union budget, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley had announced the setting up of an IIM in Jammu.
Under the PMDP, Rs 1000 crore central assistance was earmarked for establishment of IIM Jammu “with possibility of ‘out campus’ in Kashmir.
