Locals jubilant, thank admin, PDD officials say hectic efforts during harsh winter bore fruits

Srinagar: For the first time ever, a village, which remained disconnected from the power grid stations, has been electrified in South Kashmir’s Tral area, bringing joy and happiness among the masses.
Gurpal Satoora village of Tral hamlet in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district, which consists of around 20 households wasn’t electrified till yet and for the first time, the area has received electricity.
Locals told Precious Kashmir News that they have been living there since last 26 years but were still dependent on candles and other traditional lighting systems.
“We were eagerly waiting for the electricity as we have struggling hard to provide education to our children due lack of electricity,” said a local lady, Shaheena.
She said that now their children will be able to study in evening hours too, otherwise under candle lights, the students were facing tremendous hardships.
“We were completely disconnected from the world due to the unavailability of the electricity, but as the village has been illuminated, the people here are set to heave a sigh of relief,” said Bashir Ahmad, a local resident.
Meanwhile, locals thanked administration for electrifying the area and said that there is festive environment in the area after witnessing the electricity.
They said that first sight of electricity has brought cheers among locals as it wasn’t less than a dream come true for them.
They requested administration to look into their other plights including road connectivity and water supply as well so that they could heave a sigh of relief.
An official of the Power Development department (PDD) said that they continued work even during snowfall in the area to electrify the area and due to slopes, it was a hectic job.
He said that the work of installing poles and wires in harsh weather was a challenging task and finally they have managed to provide electricity to the area, adding that providing them a dedicated transformer is already under proposal, which will be installed soon.
