People allege corruption, absenteeism at Tehsil office Channapora

Srinagar: The residents of uptown Srinagar here have alleged corruption, absenteeism and abuse at Tehsil office Channapora-Natipora area of South City.

The locals in the compound of Tehsil office complained about lack of speedy delivery of revenue services to them, besides staff arriving late to the office with impunity.

“I have applied for a copy of revenue extracts of my proprietary land some four months back and have deposited the requisite fee for the same, but despite spending four months here they continue to delay things,” said Mohammad Sultan Bhat of Hyderpora.

They said that the staff arrives habitually late at the office and their behavior with the public is not satisfactory.

“We continue to wait for their arrival and while they come their treatment with us is not upto the mark,” revealed Ghulam Qadir Wani of Channapora.

“We are made to run from pillar to post and our days are wasted here for no fault of ours,” they said.

Even if Tehsildar may have other magisterial duties in the field, he must at least ensure punctuality of his staff at the office, they said.

Furthermore, the people said that everybody who comes here suffers for months together unless and until one gives up in exhaustion alleging that on the contrary “if money changes hands” only then they get some respite, otherwise there is no end to all this.

Additional Deputy Commissioner Srinagar when contacted assured immediate action.

Also, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir office was apprised of the public grievances.

Consequently while Tehsildar reported to his office at 11:30 am but the clerical staff arrived only at 11:50 am mid day.

It is pertinent to mention here that the winter office timings commence from 10:30 am sharp.

Tehsildar Channapora Saqib Ahmed while admitting the late arrivals of his staff assured of necessary action.

Meanwhile the Divisional Commissioner Kashmir has served a show-cause notice to the Tehsildar Channapora to explain his position.
