Srinagar, Jan 29 (UNI) Two anti-militancy operations are underway in Kashmir’s Pulwama and Budgam districts, officials said here on Saturday.
A gunfight broke out at Naira area of Pulwama this evening, when joint forces were carrying out a cordon and search operation against militants, believed to be hiding in a residential house. “We suspect two or more militants of Jaish-e-Mohammad are trapped in the area.
The operation is underway,” a security official said. Hours later, another gunfight erupted at Charar-i-Sharief in central Kashmir’s Budgam district. “Police and security forces are on the job,” a police tweet said.
The gunfight at Charar erupted, when joint team of forces launched a cordon and search operation following an input about the presence of militants in the area. “As the joint teams approached the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon the forces, triggering off an encounter,” a security official said.
The two encounters in Kashmir happened hours after a police head constable was shot dead in Anantnag district.
