Srinagar: Srinagar-Ladakh national highway and Mughal road connecting Shopian in south Kashmir with Rajouri in Jammu division remained closed for the vehicular traffic due to accumulation of snowfall, a traffic police official said on Monday.
However, Srinagar-Jammu national highway was through for the vehicular traffic, the traffic official said.
He further said, about a feet of snow has accumulated on Ladakh highway at Gumri, Captain More and at Kargil. Border Roads Organisation (BRO) which is responsible for the maintenance of the road has been pressed into service along with men and machinery to clear the snow from the road to make it traffic worthy.
If the weather remains favorable, the highway is likely to put through for the vehicular traffic by this evening, the traffic official said.
The traditional Mughl road connecting Shopian district in south Kashmir with Rajouri in Jammu division was also closed for vehicular traffic due after over half a feet snow accumulation at Baflaiz and Peer Ki Gali. The snow clearance operation is going on and the road is likely to be put through for the vehicular traffic as soon as possible, the traffic official added.
Meanwhile, snow clearance operation is also going on at Razdan top and Gurez roads in Bandipora district of north Kashmir which were also closed as a precautionary measure following a fresh snowfall yesterday. Besides Keran and Karnah roads in frontier Kashmir district of Kupwara are also being cleared of snow to put through for the vehicular traffic
