Handwara: The residents of Qaziabad, Pohru-chakla and Mawer villages in Langate Handwara Thursday staged a protest over the non-availability of basic amenities to the inhabitants.

The protest led by Chairman Langate Constituency Development Initiative (LCDI) Munawar Khawaja along with local political workers castigated Jal Shakti Department, R&B and PDD departments over shortage of water supply, shabby road conditions and frequent power outages.

The protestors alleged that despite time to time appraisals, the authorities concerned are yet to budge, putting the local populace into huge inconvenience.

Munawar Khawaja showed his resentment and anguish against authorities over deteriorating condition of health infrastructure in SDH Kralgund, NTPHC Qalamabad and Ashpora health centre.

Khawaja urged Deputy Commissioner Kupwara, CMO Kupwara and Director Health Services Kashmir to look into this issue of great public importance.

He also demanded early completion of Safalpora receiving station besides upgradation of Ganapora receiving station and at the same time asked for creation of news receiving stations at Walrama and Palpora to redress the power woes of the local inhabitants.

Khawaja also decried the shabby road conditions in the villages, saying the R&B department has been taking them on a ride despite they bringing the issue to the notice of officials concerned on various occasions.

The protest starting from main market Kralgund concluded at tehsil office Kralgund even as a memorandum was also submitted to Tehsildar Qaziabad.

Khawaja said that if the matters are not resolved within time, the general public will be forced to come on streets against the authorities. (GNS)
