Bijbehara villagers face acute water crisis for 15 days

Locals appeal admin to restore supply, Exen says will look into the matter

Bijbehara: Residents of Wopzan, Kandipora along with the adjacent areas in Bijbehara hamlet of Anantnag district are up against the Public Health Engineering (PHE) department for failing to provide them drinking water since last two weeks.

Locals from the areas said they are facing acute shortage of drinking water from the last two weeks as authorities have failed to restore the supply.

“We were getting drinking water supply regularly, but from the last 15 days we haven’t received a single drop of water,” they said.

Locals from Wopzan and Kandipora said that they had many times brought the issue to the notice of authorities but their repeated promises proved just hoax on ground.

“There are over a thousand households residing in twin villages who are facing water scarcity. We have many times protested against the PHE department for its failure to provide us drinking water,” they said.

“We once again request Chief engineer PHE to look into the matter at an earliest so that we may not suffer further,” local said.

Executive Engineer Public Health Engineering Department division Bijbehara Mohammed Haneef said that there was some gravity issue in the line which has been restored now.

“I will still check with the officials in case the water supply has not been restored yet,” he said. (KNO)
