Srinagar: The Jammu & Kashmir Government has set-up a three-member committee to scrutinize the applications received from interested persons for the post of Commissioner for persons with disabilities before a search-cum-selection committee would recommend a panel of three suitable candidates to the government.
The Social Welfare Department has constituted a three-member committee comprising Director Finance Social Welfare department, Director Social Welfare Jammu and Deputy Secretary Social Welfare department to scrutinize the applications received from interested candidates for the coveted position.
The committee has been directed to submit its report to the government within one week.
It is worthwhile to mention that J&K Government had last month invited applications from eligible candidates for filling the post of commissioner for persons with disabilities which was lying vacant from October 31, 2019- the day when erstwhile state of J&K was reorganised into two Union Territories.
The Commissioner for persons with disabilities regulates and monitors implementation of “The Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act,2016”.
The rules governing the appointment mandate that a search-cum-selection panel headed by J&K’s Chief Secretary shall recommend a panel of three suitable names to the Government.
The administrative secretaries of Social Welfare, Health and Family Welfare, Education and Divisional Commissioner Kashmir/ Jammu are members of the search-cum-selection panel.
According to the rules, the government shall appoint one among the three shortlisted candidates as commissioner for persons with disabilities.
The commissioner for persons with disabilities would be appointed for a period of three years or till he / she attains age of 65 years, whichever is earlier.
