3 drug peddlers held in Kashmir

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Police on Friday claimed to have arrested three drug peddlers and recovered a huge contraband from their possession.

A police spokesman said on a tip off that two drug peddlers carrying the contraband are moving on a Scooty, police established a checkpoint at Literabal Pampore in south Kashmir.

During searches two persons identified as Javaid Ahmad Bhat and Abdul Hamid Mir were stopped, he said and added 13 kgs of poppy straw was recovered from their possession.

Both the accused were arrested and shifted to police station where they remain in custody. Scooty used in commission of crime has also been seized, police said.

He said in a similar incident Police Station Kulgam received specific information that one Bashir Ahmad of Hadigam has indulged in drug peddling and has hoarded a huge quantity of narcotic substance in his residential house.

A police party of Kulgam along with a magistrate raided the particular house and recovered 6.5Kgs of dried cannabis, he said, adding that the accused has been arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody.

The police spokesman said cases under relevant sections of law were registered in respective police stations and investigations have been initiated.
