2 IEDs defused in J&K

Srinagar: The security forces on Thursday detected and defused two Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) in Jammu and Kashmir.

An Improvised Explosive Device (IED) was defused by Bomb Disposal Squad along the Baramulla-Kupwara highway in north Kashmir, officials said.

The suspect object was found by the road opening party (ROP) of the Border Security Force (BSF) near Saidpora village in Rafiabad.

“The suspicious item was approximately five meters from the road. Soon after senior security officials reached the spot and a bomb disposal squad was called to check it all,” an official source said, adding the area was cordoned and the traffic on the highway was also closed.” The sniffer dogs later confirmed the presence of explosives.”

Srinagar based defense spokesman said that the suspected IED was detected by BSF.

“Traffic including Army convoys were halted for safety reasons. The Bomb Disposal Team from Army Camp, Langait was moved to the location. The IED was destroyed in-situ. Traffic on the highway resumed thereafter,” he said.

Meanwhile, another IED planted in a village of Poonch’s Surankote subdivision was destroyed by security forces.

The IED was recovered during a search operation in Rattan Pir dhok of Surankote sub division of Poonch district.

Officials said that the IED was recovered and later destroyed by forces by a special squad of Army.

They said that the Army and police are continuing searches in the area.
