Kulgam: The former legislators and other political leaders here on Sunday condemned the killing of non-local labourers by unidentified gunmen in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district.
Former Member of Parliament and Senior People’s Conference leader, Nazir Ahmad Laway termed the killings as an attempt to bring down the image of Kashmiris outside the Valley.
He said that such incidents are unfortunate and shall be dealt with strictly, adding that such incidents are being carried out under a planned conspiracy to create communal hatred and to create disruptions.
Laway expressed heartfelt condolences with the bereaved family and prayed for the peace of the departed soul.
Chairman People’s Democratic Front (PDF) Hakeem Yaseen also expressed serious concern over spurt in civilian killings in recent days in Kashmir.
He said people of Kashmir are in deep shock and dumbstuck with the pain of cold blooded murder of two labourers in Kulgam. The spurt in senseless killings of innocent civilians was very unfortunate, heart wrenching and against tenants of Islam,” Yaseen said.
In a statement, Yaseen condemned the killing of civilians from the last few days and appealed to civil society to voice its concern in strong terms against target killing of civilians.
He said enemies of peace were hell-bent to tarnish the image of secular Kashmir and Kashmiriyat by fomenting communal frenzy and hatred.
PDF Chairman has made a fervent appeal to the people of Jammu and Kashmir, irrespective of caste, creed, colour, religion and region, to rise to the occasion and stand like a rock to defeat nefarious designs of the enemy of peace and brotherhood.”
Yaseen has also castigated the government for its alleged failure on security as well as law and order fronts. “People have every right to ask ‘who are these unknown gunmen and why the government has failed to expose them despite repeated demand from the people and civil society to unfold the mystery,” Hakeem Yaseen added.
Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) termed the killing of non-locals in Laram Ganjipor area of Kulgam district as mindless and cowardly act.
It strongly condemned the fresh spate of violence in which two more non local labourers were killed leaving another injured. In a statement, JKPCC termed the cold blooded murder of non-local labourers as very unfortunate and shameful act on the part of killers.
The attack on non-locals is a serious matter and the government should take urgent effective measures to stop the civilian killings.
JKPCC is highly concerned over the deteriorating security situation and emphasizes the Govt to ensure safety of non locals and other civilians.
The party conveyed heartfelt condolences to bereaved families of slain labourers and expressed solidarity with them.
