‘One among them involved in ASI’s killing at Khanyar, another in PDD employee’s at Batamaloo’
Srinagar: Police on Friday said that two militants “involved” in the killing of a probationary Police Sub-Inspector at Khanyar and PDD employee at Batmaloo here were killed in separate gunfights.
“At about 1730 hours, based on specific input generated by Police regarding presence of a (militant) in village Wahibug area of Pulwama, a joint cordon and search operation was launched by Police, Army (53RR) and CRPF in the area,” a police spokesperson said.
“During the search operation, as the presence of (militant) got ascertained he was given opportunity to surrender, instead he fired indiscriminately upon the joint search party, which was retaliated, leading to an encounter.”
In the ensuing encounter, the spokesperson said that one militants identified as Shahid Bashir Sheikh of Habba Kadal Srinagar was killed.
“As per police records, he had joined the (militant) folds recently and was linked with LeT (TRF). He was involved in killing of a civilian Mohammad Shafi Dar (PDD employee) at Batamaloo Srinagar on October 2.”
Meanwhile, he said, at about 1855 hours “an operation” was launched by police in Hamdaniya Colony Bemina area of Srinagar.
“During the search operation, as the presence of (militant) got ascertained he was given opportunity to surrender, instead he fired indiscriminately upon the joint search party, which was retaliated leading to an encounter.”
In the ensuing encounter, he said, one militant identified as Tanzeel Ahmad of Habba Kadal Srinagar was killed.
“As per police records, he had joined the (militant) folds recently and was linked with LeT (TRF). He was involved in killing of PSI Arshid Ashraf at Khanyar area of Srinagar on 12 September 2021.”
The spokesperson said that incriminating materials, arms and ammunition including two AK-47 rifles have been recovered from the site of encounters.
“IGP Kashmir appreciated Srinagar Police for generating specific input and carrying out anti-(militancy) operation in professional manner without any collateral damage in the City Srinagar,” the spokesperson said, adding, “ IGP Kashmir also said that besides these two specific killings, Shahid and Tanzeel were also collaborators in recent killings of one chemist and two teachers in City Srinagar.”
The spokesperson said that after recent killings of civilians in City Srinagar, so far 8 anti-militant operations were “successfully carried out in Kashmir since 8 October 2021 resulting in killing of 11 (militants).”
“IGP Kashmir once again appeals to the parents of newly recruited (militants) to bring their children back to mainstream and assured that Police will assist and facilitate them.”
