Youth drowns in river Jhelum in Sopore

Srinagar, Oct 13: A 20-year-old youth was feared dead after he drowned in river Jhelum in Sopore township of Baramulla district in north Kashmir on Wednesday.

Official sources said the youth identified as Nazir Ahmad Cheechi a resident of Bandipora slipped into the river in Seer Jagir area of Sopore this afternoon and drowned.

He said a rescue operation was launched by the locals; however, the body was not traced.

Later, the sleuths from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) were pressed into service to retrieve the body from the river.

However, the search operation was going on till late in the evening, the sources added. (UNI)
