Srinagar: A Probationer Sub Inspector (SI) of Jammu and Kashmir police was killed in a militant attack in the down town Srinagar on Sunday afternoon. However, police said that the militants involved in the act have been identified.
Official sources said that SI identified as Arshid Ashraf Mir was coming out from a lane at Khanyar when militants fired at him from a close range.
SI collapsed and fell on the road after receiving three bullet wounds. According to CCTV footage of the area, which is viral on the social media, another person accompanying SI was seen rushing towards a three wheeler passing the area.
After failing to catch the three-wheeler, he returned and with the help of another person immediately shifted the injured police officer to S K Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) where he succumbed.
Additional security forces have been rushed and entire area has been cordoned off, they said adding searches were going on when the reports last came in.
