Wife, daughter of policeman injured in Anantnag attack

Militants attack police vehicle in Sgr

Srinagar, July 20: The militants stormed into the house of a policeman at Verinag area of South Kashmir’s Anantnag district and injured his wife and daughter, police officials said Tuesday.

An official said that militants fired at the wife and daughter of police constable Sajad Ahmad Malik, resident of Kokagund Verinag.

He identified his wife as Naidha Jan and his daughter as Madhiya. He said that Sajad wasn’t present at his house at the time of attack. The official said that the injured were shifted to nearby hospital from where they were referred to GMC Anantnag.

“The area has been cordoned off to nab the attackers,” the official said.

Meanwhile, unknown militants fired upon a police vehicle in Saida Kadal area of Srinagar city.

The area falls under the jurisdiction of Police Station Rainawari.

Sources said that militants fired upon the vehicle when it reached near Saida Kadal. Shortly after the incident area was cordoned off and searches were conducted.

The attack created panic in the area. All the policemen escaped unhurt.

Confirming the incident, SHO Police Station Rainawari, Rakesh Pandita said that all the cops are safe and sound. He said windowpanes of the vehicle were damaged in the attack. (KNO/KNT)
