Bandipora’s town turns into garbage dump, locals aghast

Bandipora: The failure of Municipal Council Bandipora (MCB) to arrange a garbage dumping facility has evoked widespread resentment among the locals as heaps of domestic and market waste are lying scattered across the Bandipora town.

Locals said that the Bandipora town has been turned into a garbage dump with heaps of garbage present on the roadside in many areas including outside NM Higher Secondary School Kuloosa and near fire service station due to the non-availability of any proper garbage dumping site.

They said that the garbage being collected by municipal Council Bandipora from various areas is being dumped along the Nasoou that emanates foul smell making the pedestrian movement difficult.

The locals said that the dumping of waste in the market not only risked their lives but also was acting as a major pollutant for the entire town.

Dogs are always seen in many areas as they keep searching for food in these dumps, posing a threat to locals particularly childrens and elderly people,” Muntazir, a local from Muslimabad said.

He said that they have informed the concerned authorities several times about Kuloosa spot but in return nothing positive has happened on ground so far.

“The authorities have turned a blind eye toward this issue. Many times authorities do not lift garbage from the place even in the evenings,” Salman, a local shopkeeper said.

He said that the garbage emanates a foul smell and has become a health hazard for the people. It also attracts dogs, cattle and insects.

An official said that the man and machinery are on the job to lift the garbage from the main town. “Even if people are complaining about some spots we will check them immediately,” he said. (KNO)
