Locals forced to drink contaminated water

Budgam: The shortage of drinking water in the remote village of Kani Dajan in Charar Sharief area of Central Kashmir’s Budgam district for the past several weeks is forcing the local populace to consume filthy water from canals.
A resident of the said village said that the remote village of Kani Dajan has been without drinking water for the past three weeks, leaving people longing for a drop of drinking water.
Ghulam Rasool Josh, a well-known Kashmir Valley poet and writer and a resident in Kani Dajan said that the scarcity of drinking water has taken a serious turn in the entire village due to which the residents of the village are in dire straits.
Jhon Masood, Executive Engineer, Jal Shakti Sub-Division, Charar Sharif said that he will conduct a self-assessment of the unavailability of water.
Locals demanded the Lieutenant Governor’s administration to take concrete steps to restore the drinking water supply in the village so that the people can be relieved. (KNS)
