‘Vested interests’ trying to create wedge between J&K: Mehbooba

Jammu: Peoples Democratic Party president and former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti on Friday said that wedge is being created by the “vested interests” between Jammu and Kashmir regions.

However, she criticized the ongoing political developments in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir particularly the visit of the Delimitation Commission, which she had already termed as ‘futile exercise’ claiming that the “outcome is pre-planned”.

Mufti this afternoon arrived here on a three-day visit to hold interactions with different sections of the society.

“Kashmir and Jammu regions have always been economically and socially dependent on each other,” said Mufti.

Saying that the cultural and social diversity of this erstwhile state has been its strength, the former Chief Minister said that all attempts in the past to shutter this bound have failed.

“The social and non-political organizations have to come forward in order to stop the forces, who are playing to divide people on cultural, linguistic and religious lines,” she alleged.

“Jammu faced the worst brunt due to Abrogation of Article 370 on August 5, 2019 and now the identity of this region was at stake,” said Mufti adding, “Jammu is the receiving end of all the measures taken by the present dispensation post abrogation of Article 370. Most of the orders issued in the last two years have crippled the economy of this city, once known as the economic capital of Jammu and Kashmir.”

She was interacting with various deputations at party headquarters here. (UNI)
